Upgrade computer security to prevent hacking

KUALA LUMPUR, Sun. - Government agencies should upgrade their computer security systems to prevent hacking, said Deputy Home Minister Datuk Chor Chee Heung. This was in response to the hacking of the Road Transport Department's website on Friday. The hacker posted a warning to other computer system administrators that their websites would be attacked too if they are "too lazy to do their job". "The security protection for websites should be improved and upgraded so that such incidents would not recur," said Chor. He said although it would be difficult to trace the culprit, he advised RTD to lodge a police report to ensure proper investigation could be carried out. The hacker's handiwork was alerted by other surfers through an e-mail sent to the New Straits Times website. Referring to the seriousness of how the Parliament website was hacked a few months ago, the hacker claimed there were still people who failed to take cognizance of the incident. On Jan 6, it was reported in the NST that the Parliament website had been hacked and defaced. Besides that, the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia website was also reported to have been hacked.
