Computer security course for everyone..

<><>
STUDENTS enrolling for computer security programmes need to be selective
and choose the right course which will prepare them for the working
environment.
Wordware Distributors (M) Sdn Bhd's managing director Wilson Wong says
with the abundance of such courses in the market, they need to find out
whether the courses are recognised and if the institutions have a good
reputation.
"When it comes to security courses, most of these bodies offer only the
theory part. Students might have difficulties landing a job later as there
is a huge gap between theory-based studies and what the industry is
looking for.
"At Wordware, we offer EC Council courses which is globally recognised.
Our aim is to produce students who will be invaluable for organisations
which hire them," he says.
The EC-Council Academy's newest information and communications
technology (ICT) programme is Security5.
Security5 is an entry-level IT security programme targeted at students,
office executives, non-IT professionals, and home and general computer
users.
"It is available to anyone who is interested in understanding basic
computer security. However, we would prefer students to have at least SPM
qualifications," he says.
The benefits of enrolling for Security5 is that it is specially designed
for end users who are not IT professionals or systems administrators.
"Security5 gives working adults and students the opportunity to have
access to a foundation course on networking literacy skills and security
basics," Wong says.
"It is beneficial because most IT security courses available in the
market today generally have higher entry-level requirements and are meant
for IT professionals, network security offices and systems
administrators."
Security5 adopts a non-academic and hands-on approach to help students
understand the fundamental concepts needed in securing their computers
rather than theories and protocols. It covers five IT security components,
namely firewalls, anti-virus, intrusion detection system, networking and
Web security.
According to Wong, students with Security5 can pursue programmes such as
Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator
(CHFI) and e-Business Security, which are all globally recognised
certifications.
  Security5 is a two-day programme and costs RM799.
The fee includes exclusive courseware, an identity card, lab manual, and
compact disc that includes free tools, PowerPoint slides, white papers,
course evaluation, demos and workbook. The examinations are conducted
online by Prometric.
EC-Council Academy, the principal provider of EC-Council programmes in
the Asia-Pacific region is the new name for Wordware Global Services.
Located at Jalan Raja Laut, the academy houses 10 training labs, an exam
hall, a conference room, a recreational area and a cafeteria.
